Colorful, roomy, elegant yet casual, they are useful and attractive for both lounging at home as well as for elegant wear. Popular with both young and old, and especially with the plus sized woman, the kaftan is an extremely popular wear today. They are also called a muumuu, jilbab or simply house dress. Historically, the kaftan is a mans cotton or silk cloak buttoned down the front, with full sleeves, reaching to the ankles. It was the traditional wear in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Women wear it as evening gown dress. It is also preferred maternity dress as well as plus size dress. Sometimes these caftans are also refered to as robe or tunic.
